In this part the instructor teaches how a simple pump could be simulated; then he shows how required information for pump datasheet could be extracted from Aspen Plus. He solves the problem by two different approaches-one being just specifying the pump discharge and the other one being specifying the pump performance curve.
This part is really comprehensive! Throughout this part which is about water transportation project, you are taught how disparate pressure change equipment such as control valves, pumps, pipe segments, could be modeled in Aspen Plus. The trainer instructs how process engineers should provide the software with required information for each pressure change equipment and then run it. Moreover, he uses sensitivity tool in Aspen Plus to calculate required NPSH as well as the impact of change in flowrate on available NPSH.He finally, by using cavitation index in Aspen Plus, determines the critical point for one of control valves.
In last part you are instructed how steam generation loop works and how it could be simulated in Aspen Plus.In addition he uses Design Spect to determine the exact BFW flowrate to have a specific temperature at superheater outlet. Alongside that he goes beyond just simulating the loop by using sensitivity tool to find the optimum operating pressure for interstage of two steam turbines used in the loop.
